Clipboard on your Android device:
Table of Contents
A common query of some smartphone users is where is the clipboard on Android or particular phone models such as Samsung Galaxy, how to open, see, utilize or remove it. Generally, the clipboard is stored in the memory of the Android phone, but it can be accessed and, additionally, most smartphones save the clipboard history, which can also be viewed.
This guide explains where to locate the clipboard on clean Android and on your Samsung Galaxy device, what clipboard actions are available, and some extra details that might come in handy.
Where is the clipboard on Android (clean Android and Samsung phones)?
As mentioned at the start of this article, the clipboard itself is also located in the memory of the phone, but the content of the clipboard can be seen, usually not just the current clipboard content, but also the texts copied earlier, and even the images in some instances:
On a stock Android phone:
or on any other phone with Google Gboard as the default keyboard, open the keyboard (tap on any text input field on your phone to open it). Then tap the clipboard icon.
The clipboard contents will be opened. In case history storage is turned off, you will be asked to turn it on (through the switch at the top right). The clipboard by default will keep the copied data’s history for one hour.
If you have to delete an item from the clipboard or, on the other hand, save it after one hour, do a long press on the item and press either of the buttons: place on current clipboard (to paste somewhere), pin (not to delete it) or delete (to delete the item from the clipboard).
If you own a Samsung Galaxy and use the default Samsung keyboard as your main keyboard, open it (by clicking on any text input area), then click the clipboard icon or, if none is visible, click the three-dot button. click on the top right “Clipboard”.
You can view the items stored on the Samsung clipboard, not just texts but images as well. With a long touch on them, you can remove them from the clipboard or clip them so that they are not deleted. A short touch inserts the item into the currently active input field.
Most third-party keyboards also contain elements for interaction with the clipboard, and their implementation is not very different from those mentioned above. Nevertheless, third-party programs can also be used to open the Android clipboard and interact with the data contained within it. And naturally you can always overwrite the current clipboard content by just copying something new to it.
Third-party apps to interact with the Android clipboard
If you are in the Play Market app store and search “Clipboard” or “Clipboard” in your app search, you will have many apps where you can open, delete and organize your Android clipboard somehow.
The implementation differs from application to application, for instance an application by the simple name of HDM Dev Team ‘Clipboard’ displays the clipboard history and content directly at the top of the screen (can be folded in) with the ability to delete them, paste them and make notes.
Other apps are installed in the notification drawer or in their own independent interface that does not occupy the clipboard. I have no idea which one will be appropriate for you, so I suggest you take a look at the best-rated clipboard apps for Android and read their screenshots and reviews – I’m certain you’ll be able to get the appropriate one for you.
